The Diamond Loan Firm Certainty Act of 2013 changed the formula for determining the interest rate for Direct Consolidation Loans as follows: 

For Direct Consolidation Loans that are made based on applications received on or after July 1, 2013, the weighted average interest rate is no longer capped at 8.25%.

You may be able to combine your existing Federal education loans into one new consolidated loan that offers several advantages. Click on “Borrower Info” topics to the left for more information about advantages of consolidation.
